North Arrow Log Homes and Timber Structures - Serving Michigan, Indiana and Ohio - "We're Building Your Dreams!" |
Log home building has been in our family since the early 1900's. My great grandfather David Parrish began building Log camps for the timber workers, then small log homes for family members, then larger homes for the family. As people began to come north for summer vacations he began to build for the tourist.

More homes were built and more arrows were placed pointing North. We have named our business after that arrow that points North and we continue with the tradition of putting an arrow in our homes that points North. (I think grandpa would be pleased) Our arrows are all hand made, cedar shafts, with real turkey feathers and a real hand chiped stone arrowhead.

| Great grandpa Parrish and his sons built many beautiful log homes on Drummond Island Michigan. Drummond Island lays at the mouth of the Saint Mary's River at the north end of Lake Huron. |
His beautiful log home was conviently located on Whitney Bay and served as a stop-over place for many travelers.
In the early 1900's it was very important to be oriented as to direction and as the family finished their home someone came up with the idea of putting an arrow through the king post truss in the living room and having that arrow point north.
We started North Arrow Log Homes as a business in 1989 and since that time have built well over 200 log homes. Some of our projects have been very small, 12 by 14 feet for a sauna and very large, 15,000 sq. ft. for a primary residence. |
We have built many vacation homes as well as retirement homes. The most of our homes are 2000 to 3000 sq. ft.and are perminant residence's.
North Arrow began on Drummond Island and we were there until 2000. It was at that time that we wanted to expand our business and get a little closer to our log supply as well as our customers.

That's when we moved to Cedarville Michigan and built a new log yard actually 5 miles north of Hessel Michigan. The outdoor yard is still at that location. We receive the raw logs there, debark them, stack and dry them.
When they are ready for a home we peel them and load them onto our truck and take them indoors. Our indoor facility is an old B-52 bomber hanger at the former Kincheloe Air Force Base at Kinross Michigan (about 20 miles).
It is at our indoor facility that we finish peel, scribe, fit, cut, notch, numberand take the logs to there finished state.
Eric Gallentine (our son-in-law) attended timber framing school in 2004 and since that time we have been building more timber frame and log accent homes than before. We see our future expanding even more in these areas.
There seems to be more people that love the log look and want log accents throughout there homes. Often we build log post or pillars with log floor joist, log truss's and purlins in the roof system. These homes are stunning because they incorporate a log look that goes very nicely with painted drywall on the interior and wood siding on the exterior.
We would love to put a “North” Arrow in a home for you.
